Save Our Jobs
On January 1st of this year 1200 security officers in Boston and Cambridge won their first union contract. For these officers their contract represents the hope for a better life for them and their families. For many officers this was the first time in years that they will have steady raises, that they can take a vacation without worrying about loss of pay, and that they have dignity and respect on the job.
These gains were achieved by a dynamic effort which united officers, community allies, political and religious leaders, and other property service workers. Now, 10 months later, those gains are in danger at the old John Hancock building and at 601 Congress Street. 32 officers who protect these two properties were given notice that a new company, a non-union company, will be taking over on October 3rd.
